Celebrating “YOU” @ Fortis Hospital – Mulund

Fortis Hospital, Mulund is a multi-specialty tertiary hospital with diverse people working to provide quality care to the patients and community at large. The diversity is visible right from a security guard at the gate to the doctor doing the rounds & meeting patients; from the housekeeping person cleaning rooms, to the diligent nurse at the bedside & from the technician who does an eye-check up to the customer care lady who greets the customers at the helpdesk. Even with this diverse group; the goal for all is common: to ensure excellent service with the best clinical care.

The human resources challenge in this is quite evident: how to keep engaged this varied group of individuals; at the same time create a harmonious culture so all relentlessly work towards the common goal. The organization plans various initiatives to reach out and engage employees and clinicians throughout the year; the Celebrating YOU initiative was unique in its own way.

Celebrating “YOU” – cause YOU make the difference was a drive conducted with the sole objective of recognizing and appreciating employees at all levels for their valuable contribution to the Hospital’s success. The drive was planned across the month of March (end of financial year) with various activities for employee involvement.

1. Management-employee interactions: A team of senior management team members including the Head-Hospital (Facility Director) went across the hospital meeting employees at their work-stations. This provided a platform for employees to communicate on a one-to-one with seniors and for the management team to thank employees for their contributions. This created tremendous positivity in the hospital atmosphere.

2. Team/departmental achievements: It is seldom possible that employees are able to share their individual/departmental achievements to the senior team. This activity ensured that employees presented to a senior panel their department’s achievements in the year; in an innovative manner. Even though the head of department was involved, the presentations were done by employees themselves. The enthusiasm in the air was evident as teams presented through role-plays, audio-visuals and props their triumphs; one team even got their delighted patients to share their experiences with the audience!

image3. Celebrations & Felicitation: At the end of the presentations; a Celebrating YOU cake was cut with a chain of employees, games and quizzes with prizes were a part of the event including a team going across to conduct games at the work-stations; hospital works 24*7 and to reach out to all; a multi-pronged game plan (pun intended) is a must!

A felicitation ceremony was held to recognize the annual achievers: “Best Employee” of the year (tracked through monthly score cards and monthly awards) & “Best Department” of the year (score-card, quality & clinical outcomes) were given out. Service awards for employees/doctors completing 5, 7 & 10 years in the Hospital were given out as a symbolic conclusion to the grand festivity.

Impact:

At the end of the month; an employee feedback was taken regarding the drive. Employees were very touched and upbeat regarding the initiative especially the part where management team came across to chat with them in addition to getting an opportunity to share their achievements. The general feel was it should happen more frequently!!! Smile

This reinforced the management team’s belief that such activities bring a wave of positive energy in the organization ecosystem which is an otherwise intense work environment. Fortis, Mulund therefore coined its new mantra: Providing quality care is in our DNA; we have fun while doing so !!!
