Ex-RBI research head Prachi Mishra appointed as MD and chief India economist for Goldman Sachs.

Goldman Sachs has announced the appointment of Prachi Mishra as Managing Director and Chief India economist. In her new role, she will be based in Mumbai.

She joins from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) where she was deputy division chief of the Western Hemisphere Department.  Earlier in November 2014, she had joined joined the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), as one of the first lateral entry in the central bank in the promotion grade. She had joined as a chief general manager as a part of the economic and policy research department.

Prior to her research head stint at RBI, she had been a senior economist at the IMF’s monetary and capital market department. She has also worked with RBI earlier, with then chief economic advisor of the finance ministry and ex-RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan in North Block between November 2012 and September 2013.

She is a Delhi School of Economics alumnus, with a PhD and M.Phil in economics from Columbia University.
