Swiggy, India’s food delivery unicorn, has seen rapid expansion since it started. The company,  founded by Sriharsha Majety, Nandan Reddy, and Rahul Jaimini in August 2014, was a late entrant as compared to Food Panda ( now owned by Ola), and Zomato, but has taken over the market and has emerged as the leading brand in the space.

It is learnt that Swiggy is planning to augment its delivery team by upto 3 lakh over the next 18 months This would make its delivery team about 5 lakh strong, a sizable number in terms of employment opportunities created.

Sriharsha Majety, co-founder and CEO of Swiggy, mentioned in a statement to media “If some of our growth estimates continue, it will not be too many years before we can be the third-largest source of employment in the country, behind the Army and Indian Railways.”

The company, valued at about $ 3.3 billion when it raised $1 billion in December 2018, has scaled up at a much faster pace and has expanded in over 500 cities with over 140,000 partner restaurants.
