PhonePe to strengthen female representation in senior roles to 25%

Online payment firm PhonePe has pledged to enhance female representation from 16 percent to 25 percent by the end of year 2021.

The startup is aiming to increase the representation of women in two senior leadership position – directors and vice presidents.

In the declaration of its diversity & inclusion (D&I) charter, the startup aims to form an inclusive workforce. The company announced that it has taken on a goal defined in terms of numbers for gender at higher level.

“As we build solutions for a billion Indians, it is important for us that the organisation we create truly represents the diversity of our customer base. I have always felt strongly about creating a diverse, inclusive and vibrant organisation,” said co-founder and chief executive at PhonePe – Sameer Nigam.

He added, “There are sound rational reasons to do this – there is a strong correlation between diverse organizations and increased shareholder value; as a diverse workspace we will be able to attract from a wider talent pool; and we will be able to encourage deeper, more holistic thinking.”

With over 250 million registered users, PhonePe is one of the most used digital payment apps in India amid an increasingly competitive landscape. PhonePe also has a digital wallet business and is looking to crack the insurance and retail investment intermediary segment.
