Samsung announces top management changes

Samsung Electronics Co. has recently announced major changes in its top management. Roh Tae-moon has been named the new mobile head. This reshuffle in top management is a part of Samsung’s annual senior executive changes which was supposed to happen last year in December. The company delayed the regular year-end reshuffle due to ongoing criminal proceedings against involving Samsung Electronics vice chairman and de-facto head Jay Y Lee.

Prior to his appointment as a CEO, 51-year old Roh was serving as the President and Head of Research and Development at the company’s mobile division. He spearheaded the development of Galaxy series, flagship mobile series of the smartphone maker. Roh is taking over the position from DJ Koh. Koh will continue to lead Samsung’s IT and Mobile communication arms. He will be responsible for both mobile devices and network equipment.

Post the reshuffle, Roh will take over the mobile division while Jeon Kyung-hoon who’s currently Vice-President of the network business will be made the President.

Vice-Chairman and Head of Device Solutions, Kim Ki-nam and Head of Consumer Electronics, Kim Hyun-suk have retained their respective positions.

Four senior executives have also been promoted to President positions this year. Hwang Sung-woo, VP of Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology will head the Samsung Group’s R&D Division. VP of Business Support TaskForce, Choi Yoon-ho will now be the President. Park Hark-kyu, Executive Vice President of Business Operations at Samsung SDS, IT service affiliate, will now lead corporate management at Samsung Electronics’ semiconductor business.
