Ambuja Cements MD and CEO Ajay Kapur Quits.

Ajay Kapur, MD, and CEO of Ambuja Cement have decided to step down from his position next year after serving the company for 26 years, the company announced in a stock exchange filing.

Kapur will step down from his current role from March 1, 2019, and has decided to pursue a career outside the cement industry.

“It is not an easy decision to leave a company where I have built my career in an “I Can” culture for such a long period. Having worked so passionately for so long, I am very positive about the Company’s bright future” Kapur conveyed his gratitude to the Board.

He is an economics graduate and holds a master’s in management degree with a specialization in marketing and an Advanced Management Program degree from Wharton Business School, USA.

He joined the company in 1993 as an Executive Assistant to the then Managing Director and Founder, NS Sekhsaria. Kapur has handled various profiles like Marketing Head, National Head – Marketing and Commercial Services, Business Head and CEO.

He is a Co-Chair of the Cement Sustainability Initiative of the World Business Council For Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and a Member of the Board of Governors of National Council for Cement and Building Materials. He is also the Chairman of the CII-Cement Industry Division.

The firm will name a successor to Kapur soon.
