Biocon head Kiran Mazumdar Shaw tests positive for coronavirus

The Executive Chairperson of Biocon, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw recently through social media platform Twitter announced that she has tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

In her tweet informing the people of her health, the 67-year old biotech industry veteran said, “I have added to the COVID count by testing positive. Mild symptoms n I hope it stays that way.”

In response to her tweet, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said, “So sorry to hear this, @KiranShaw. We need you hale & hearty soon! Be well, my friend.”

Ironically, Shaw-led Biocon is one of the companies working extensively in making the much-anticipated coronavirus vaccine. Shaw had recently also questioned Russia’s claims of developing the world’s first safe coronavirus vaccine, citing the absence of data on clinical trials and “more advanced” programmes elsewhere.
