Employee Welfare: Airtel to pay April salary of staff employed by dealers, franchisees

In an attempt to promote employee welfare and the company’s relationship with dealers and franchise owners, Bharti Airtel will reportedly pay the April month salary of nearly 25,000 employees belonging to its dealers, distributors and franchisees.

According to a report by Mint, the company has told its partners to pay their employees full salaries for the month and that the company would then compensate them for the same.

In a letter to its partners, Bharti Airtel’s CEO for Delhi-NCR circle, Vani Ventakesh said, “In order to help you tide over this tough time, we plan to extend a one time support for the month of April. This is done with an endeavour to ensure that your FSE and other frontline colleagues get their basic income. You are therefore requested to pass on your staff remuneration for the month of April.”

A similar kind of letter has been written by various company’s circle heads to its dealers and distributors. Mint has verified the authenticity of the letter and its content.

However, this is only a one-time support for the partners who are suffering huge losses in business amid the nationwide lockdown imposed by the government to prevent community transmission of the novel coronavirus.

Venkatesh also said that the company has covered all field service executives of its partners under the covid-19 medical insurance program “as a gesture of our gratitude towards this force.”

“We are absolutely confident that once the lockdown is over by 3rd May, we will spring back and win in the marketplace,” Venkatesh added.

The company is trying to shield its dealers and their staff from the uncertainty caused by the lockdown of various operations, including distribution chains of telecom companies. However, essential services like network maintenance continue.
