Business Standard appoints Uday Shankar to the Board

Former CEO of Star India and President of Walt Disney Asia Pacific, Uday Shankar, has joined the board of financial daily Business Standard as a non-executive director, according to an announcement made by the management in an internal memo.

Most recently, Shankar joined hands with James Murdoch’s Lupa Systems for a new venture which will explore technology and media opportunities in emerging markets. Before taking over his duties to head Star India in 2007, Shankar was a TV Journalist.

The memo also announced the retirement of TN Ninan from his post as chairman and director of Business Standard. Ninan has been associated with the company for close to three decades, first as editor, then as editor and publisher, and for the last 12 years as chairman and director of the company.

Additionally, Shivendra Gupta has been appointed as managing director and CEO of the company. Prior to this, he was the CEO of the company.

A K Bhattacharya has been appointed as executive director and editorial director of the company. He was earlier the editorial director, and before that the editor of the newspaper.
