Citigroup hires former IFC exec von Friedeburg to boost development bank ties

Citigroup Inc has hired the former chief operating officer of the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation (IFC) to help boost its work with development finance institutions, according to Reuters report.

Stephanie von Friedeburg had spent almost three decades within the World Bank Group, before retiring at the end of September, according to her Twitter profile.

Within Citi’s public sector team, von Friedeburg will assist with “scaling blended finance, climate-transition finance and how to help sovereigns attract needed private sector financing for national infrastructure projects,” according to the memo, the contents of which were confirmed by a Citi spokesperson.

In her time within the World Bank Group, von Friedeburg developed significant experience in Africa and Central and Eastern Europe in sectors such as telecom, manufacturing and technology.

As managing director of DFI strategic partnership, von Friedeburg will report to Julie Monaco and Jason Rekate – global heads, respectively, of public sector corporate and investment banking, and corporate banking.
