Fiona Clare Cicconi joins Google as Head of People Operations

Google has hired Fiona Clare Cicconi, a top executive from pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca, to oversee its personnel policies. Cicconi will replace Eileen Naughton.

Google announced that Cicconi is leaving AstraZeneca to become its head of people operations during a meeting with employees, according to media reports.

In her new role, Cicconi will have to make sure that workers who are remote working have their needs met while remaining productive, and then oversee the eventual transition to their return to Google offices scattered throughout the world, in addition to its Silicon Valley hub.

Prior to AstraZeneca, Cicconi worked with Roche, Cisco Systems, and GE – Oil & Gas. She holds a Diploma in International Business Studies from Leeds Metropolitan University.

“COVID has changed many aspects of how we work, and this is one of our highest priorities in 2021,” said Google CEO Sundar Pichai, who also runs its corporate parent, Alphabet Inc. “The role of people operations is central to this work, and I look forward to working closely with Fiona as we enter the new year.”

Pichai last week told employees that Google is beginning a thorough review into Gebru’s exit, a process that now seems likely to involve Cicconi.
