Godfrey Phillips India appoints Ajay Vohra to its Board

Cigarette maker Godfrey Phillips India Limited announced the appointment of Ajay Vohra as Non-Executive Independent Director on the company’s Board, with effect from July 1, 2023.

According to the company’s exchange filing, “we wish to inform you that at the 86th Annual General Meeting of the Company held today i.e 1st September 2023, the members has approved the appointment of Mr. Ajay Vohra (DIN 00012136) as a Non-Executive Independent Director of the Company for first term of five consecutive years w.e.f 1st July 2023 up to 30th June 2028, not liable to retire by rotation.”

Ajay Vohra, a qualified chartered accountant and lawyer and has been practicing for the last 39 years in the area of domestic and international tax and is a leading arguing counsel before the Tax Tribunals, High Courts and the Supreme Court. He has argued several cases involving complex issues having wide ramifications, which has contributed immensely to the tax jurisprudence in the country. Prior to being designated as Senior Advocate by the Delhi High Court in September 2014, Vohra was the Managing Partner of Vaish Associates, Advocates, a leading law firm from 2006 to 2014.

Vohra has been rated as one of the “most highly-acclaimed legal experts in the Asia-Pacific Region” in the field of Taxation by Asia law Leading Lawyers Guide for each of the years 2006 to 2014, prior to his designation as Senior Advocate.
