Google appoints Anil Bhansali as Vice President of Google Cloud India

Internet giant Google recently announced that it has appointed former Microsoft executive Anil Bhansali as Vice President of Engineering for its cloud business in India.

In his new role, Bhansali will handle all software development support efforts for Google Cloud in India.

Commenting on Bhansali’s appointment, Amit Zavery, Vice President, Engineering, Google LLC said, “We’re very excited that Bhansali has joined Google Cloud to help grow and scale our software development support efforts in India so we can continue expanding and advancing Google Cloud services that are used by customers in more than 150 countries worldwide.”

Prior to joining Google, Bhansali was associated with Microsoft for about 28 years. In his last assignment, Bhansali was the Vice President of Microsoft’s cloud division, Azure. He was the site leader for the company’s research and development in India. He has also led engineering roles across Microsoft’s office, search, and window divisions.

Bhansali’s appointment comes just weeks after Google hired another former Microsoft executive Karan Bajwa as Managing Director for its Cloud Division in India. Bajwa joined Google Cloud from IBM where he served as India and South Asia managing director.

The recent appointments at Google Cloud are a sign of Google’s aggressive play to take on its rivals in the country, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure, and Alicloud.

Speaking about his appointment, Bhansali in a LinkedIn post said, “Delighted and excited to have the opportunity to lead Google Cloud Engineering in India. Looking forward to this new journey.”

Recently, Google had also announced its plans to open its second data center in Delhi in 2021 which will be the company’s second cloud region in India after Mumbai. As of now, Google’s existing network stands at eight regions in the Asia Pacific and 22 regions globally.

Google Cloud counts Hero Motocorp, ICICI Prudential, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, Indiamart, L&T Finance, OYO Hotels and Homes, Wipro, and Truecaller among several others as its anchor clients.
