Hike, an Indian AI-led Unicorn startup that is committed to building a new social future, announced that it has appointed Suvesh Malhotra as VP & Head of Engineering. Malhotra holds over 15 years of experience in leading and implementing innovative technology solutions for businesses.

Prior to this role, Malhotra held the position of Senior VP, technology at OYO Hotels and Homes.

“As part of my role in the company, I will be responsible for leading engineering functions at Hike with a specific focus for scaling the virtual world experience for HikeLand. I will be reporting directly to Kavin Bharti Mittal, Founder & CEO, Hike,” Malhotra told ETCIO. “The company has a unique disposition in the Indian tech ecosystem innovating at the intersection of Art and AI. I look forward to being part of Kavin’s vision of building a new social future,” Malhotra said.

Malhotra is an IIT Guwahati graduate, and has expertise in building large scale distributed systems, hands on data analytics use cases, developing mobile apps, ML-based systems and more.

“I have always been passionate about the social landscape of India and its overdue for disruption and how. Most of our social products haven’t evolved much since 2012 while technology has advanced manifolds. What attracted me towards Hike most was Kavin’s vision of transforming the social experience and creating for the next generation of internet users that is largely mobile. Hike has already begun that journey with the recent beta rollout of the world’s first mobile-first virtual world, HikeLand. In addition to that, leveraging the AI/ML prowess of the team at Hike, we will continue to push boundaries with Computer Vision, NLP, Big Data, and more,” Malhotra emphasised.

Kavin Bharti Mittal, Founder & CEO of Hike has put company values and work culture as priority while adopting new age technologies. There are initiatives such as Hike Code which puts emphasis on employees to take ownership and this fosters strong decision-making capabilities.

“I am fortunate to have joined an organisation whose culture has been an inspiration to me even as an outsider. Kavin himself has laid down the guiding principles for hikers that we like to call the Hike Code that specifically equips us to continuously innovate and deliver. And this will also be resonating with my leadership strategy in the following years,” Malhotra added.
