Kalyan Jewellers India Limited announced the appointment of Vinod Rai as Chairman and Additional Director on the company’s Board, with effect from July 1, 2022.
According to the company’s exchange filing, “the Board of Directors of the Company have, by way of circular resolution passed on July 01, 2022, appointed Mr. Vinod Rai (DIN: 00041867) as Chairman and Additional Director (Non-Executive, Independent) of the Company for a term of three consecutive years with effect from July 01, 2022, subject to approval of the Shareholders of the Company.”
Vinod Rai is the former comptroller and auditor general of India and former chair of the United Nations Panel of External Auditors. Rai has held various positions within the Indian government as well as in the state government of Kerala. Rai has been instrumental in many reforms in India, including in overhauling the administrative structure of Indian railways, which includes introducing accrual accounting.
He was also chairman of the Banks Board Bureau, a body set up by the Indian government to reform public banking in India. He has served as a director on the boards of a range of financial institutions, including ICICI Bank, the State Bank of India and the Life Insurance Corporation of India, and is a distinguished visiting research fellow at the Institute of South Asian Studies, National University of Singapore.
Rai has Master’s degrees from the University of Delhi and from Harvard University.
