Gajendra Chandel, President and CHRO at Tata Motors Ltd, has decided to move on from Tata Motors after serving the firm for 14 long years. “Gajendra Chandel has decided to move on from his role at Tata Motors … to pursue his entrepreneurial interests,” a Tata Motors spokesperson said an email response to ET’s queries.

Chandel joined the Tata Group in 2005 as the President of Human Resources in Tata AutoComp Systems and has a long stint there for almost 8 years, he then became the Member Executive Committee & Chief Human Resources Officer of Tata motors in April 2014.

“I am venturing on my own and would be working with start-ups and entrepreneurs with strong ethics, values and dreams to grow big,” Chandel said in a statement to ET.

During his tenure, several voluntary retirement schemes were introduced to cut the cost. It played a key part in cutting cost by Rs 400 crore by getting rid of 1,500 managerial staff.

Before joining Tata group, he worked at Siemens from 1992 to 2005 as director and general manager and group head of shared services.

Chandel completed his master’s in public administration from the Punjab University.
