Global sports brand Puma, recently announced that it has elevated its India Managing Director to General Manager India and Southeast Asia.
As per a letter to its business partners, Puma SE Global CEO Bjorn Gulden said, “With his extended responsibility, Puma Southeast Asia will benefit from the management expertise of Abhishek Ganguly, while he continues to lead our global focus market India.”
While Ganguly will be made responsible for the future development of Puma Southeast Asia, he will continue to be the Managing Director for India operations and will be based in Bengaluru, Gulden added in the mail.
Till now, as MD Puma India, Ganguly was responsible for operations in India and neighboring countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Bhutan. Post his promotion, Ganguly will oversee business in 11 fast-growing markets in SE Asia like Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam among others.
Ganguly has led Puma’s strong performance in India where it competes with its global rivals Adidas and Nike. Puma has engaged with India’s youth with the help of brand ambassadors like Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli, football wizard Sunil Chhetri, boxing legend Mary Kom, Indian football goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and ace athlete Dutee Chand.
Ganguly joined Puma’s founding team in the country as Director of Sales and Marketing and brought with him a vast experience in retail and sales. He is responsible for making Puma as the country’s second-largest sports brand after Decathlon, from being an unknown brand years ago.
An IIM Lucknow alumnus, Ganguly has more than 18 years of experience in sales and retail. Prior to joining Puma, Ganguly was working with Reebok India for three years as Regional Manager. At the time Abhishek moved out of Reebok India in 2005, he was heading the Southern Region for the company.
