Ryan Roslansky : The next LinkedIn CEO

Ryan Roslansky, SVP Products, LinkedIn

Recently Jeff Weiner, announced his exit from CEO role at LinkedIn after a 11 years stint. He will move on to be the Executive Chairman of the company effective June 1, 2020.

The CEO position will be taken over by Ryan Roslansky, presently global head of product for the platform. Ryan is designated as Senior Vice President, Products and User Experience, and is responsible for setting and executing the global product strategy at LinkedIn, through the product management, user experience and design, editorial, business development and customer operations teams.

Ryan, has been with LinkedIn since May 2009, and was the first hire by Jeff Weiner post his joining in Dec 2008.  In his LinkedIn post announcing Ryan as the next CEO, Jeff mentioned – “Ryan was the first hire I made after joining LinkedIn in December 2008. He has been essential to the company’s success ever since: helping to build our Marketing Solutions business, developing LinkedIn’s Influencer program and publishing platform, overseeing the home page and Feed, running all of our consumer products, championing the acquisition of Lynda.com, and co-developing our prioritization framework for the Microsoft integration. Most recently, as our global head of product, Ryan has been a key architect in reshaping LinkedIn’s increasingly complex consumer and enterprise applications into a single, holistic, global ecosystem. In doing so, he has helped lead one of the best performing stretches in the company’s history.

Ryan posted an update on LinkedIn about his next role – My Next Play: LinkedIn CEO

“I remember when Jeff called me in late 2008 to tell me about this company called LinkedIn he was passionate about. The courage and conviction in his voice about what LinkedIn could become was unlike anything I had ever heard him say in the six years I had known him. I was hooked, and without hesitating knew I had to be part of this journey. It was the second best decision I ever made. (First was marrying my wife, Leigh, of course.) Over my 10+ years at LinkedIn, I’ve been fortunate to work on every part of our product ecosystem – spanning the largest global professional social network and the six distinct businesses built on top of it. To say I am humbled to lead this company into the future would be an understatement. As the world of work evolves at an accelerated pace, I firmly believe there is no other platform with the potential to help professionals navigate their careers.

For the past three years, I’ve had the opportunity to lead the LinkedIn product team as our community has grown and evolved into a vibrant ecosystem where professionals come on a daily basis. Everything we’ve built is created on top of the foundation Reid Hoffman and Allen Blue launched and nurtured. We’ve taken the world’s most powerful way for professionals to stay connected and made it the most trusted place for professional conversations. We’ve created a destination that attracts more than 35 million job seekers every week and where someone is hired every 7 seconds. We’ve helped marketers talk to the right, high-quality audience; enabled jobseekers to connect with hiring managers to get to that next step in their career; created ways for businesses big and small to explain how they view the world and to find customers and employees.”

Ryan, serves on the Board of Directors of GoDaddy, and is also an investor and advisor to various entrepreneurs. Prior to joining LinkedIn he was with Glam Media, and Yahoo Inc, in various general management and product management roles.  He had an entrepreneurial stint in 1997 as founder of Housing Media, one of first internet real estate and classified directories that was sold to USHousing.
