Sandip Patel to succeed Karan Bajwa as MD of IBM

Global tech-giant IBM on Wednesday announced the appointment of Sandip Patel as the Managing Director for its India and South Asia business. He will be succeeding Karan Bajwa who resigned from the company to pursue opportunities outside.

Patel will be responsible for strategic and operational matters related to IBM’s sales, marketing, services and delivery operations in the region, including Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka. Additionally, he will play a critical role in enabling India’s capabilities across IBM’s global missions, global centers of excellence, research and innovation labs.

Prior to this appointment, Patel was working with IBM in Boston, Massachusetts as Global Manager for its Insurance industry and was responsible for IBM’s business across all brands in this market segment.

Announcing the appointment, Harriet Green, Chairman & CEO, IBM Asia Pacific, said, “IBM has been a key player in India’s technology journey and continues to provide the innovation necessary to power India’s digital transformation across key industries and Government. Sandip’s deep industry expertise and global understanding of clients across different markets will bring real value to our clients as they embark on their transformation journey.”

Most recently, Mr. Patel was based in Boston, Massachusetts where he was IBM’s global general manager for the Insurance industry and was re His extensive expertise in key industries, including, coupled with his global leadership experience will bring great value to IBM’s clients and business in the region.

Before joining IBM, Patel was the President of Aetna International. He has extensive expertise in industries like Financial Services, Insurance, and Healthcare. He has served as a partner in various leadership roles at IBM, PriceWaterhouse Coopers, and Coopers & Lybrand, and was a Chartered Accountant in India in his early career.

Karan Bajwa, who led IBM’s ISA (India-South Asia) business during a period of great change in the marketplace, announced his farewell from the company through a LinkedIn post thanking the customers, partners, and colleagues for their support.

Bajwa was responsible for growing IBM’s mid-market business, enabling clients’ digital transformation and journey to the cloud. In their press release, IBM thanked Bajwa for his contribution.
