Tata Steel appoints Akshay Khullar as VP – Engineering & Projects

Tata Steel Limited announced the appointment of Akshay Khullar as the Vice President – Engineering & Projects, with effect from February 1, 2024.

According to the company’s exchange filing, “In terms of the Company’s Succession Plan for Senior Management Personnel, Mr. Akshay Khullar is being appointed as the Vice President – Engineering & Projects (Designate), effective December 1, 2023 and as the Vice President – Engineering & Projects, effective February 1, 2024.”

Akshay Khullar joined Tata Steel as a Graduate Trainee in 1992 after completing B.Tech. in Metallurgy from IT, BHU. In his initial years, he has had exposure to varied roles across Steel Making Operations. After serving in varied roles in Steel Making Operations, in 2001 he assumed the responsibility of Head Technologist (continuous casting), and later was appointed as Head Operations LD#1, in the year 2003. In 2010, he was promoted as Chief – Thin Slab Casting & Rolling (TSCR), in LD#3 & TSCR and subsequently appointed as Chief LD#2 & Slab Caster, in 2014. In 2020 he was appointed as Chief of Manufacturing Long Products, and in 2022, he was transferred to Engineering and Projects Division as General Manager Projects and Construction at Tata Steel Kalinganagar, the position he currently holds.

Khullar has been a leader with a proven track record and has significantly contributed towards Steel Manufacturing and Engineering & Projects, ensuring increase in productivity, and reducing cost. He has contributed to the growth of LD#1 capacity from1.4 mtpa to 3.3 mtpa, commissioning and ramping up of LD#3 & TSCR and executing projects for Phase #2 expansion of Kalinganagar. He has brought about notable change in areas that he has managed and has been a high performing leader with proven track record in techno commercial domains.
