India’s top 10 richest people of 2021

Forbes announced its Top 100 richest people in India for the year 2021 in terms of individual net worth. As the world’s sixth largest economy reeled under huge losses because of the second wave of the pandemic, the combined wealth of the richest Indians rose to a whopping $ 775 billion which is $252 billion (about 50 per cent) more than the previous year. 

The biggest gainer on this year’s list is Gautam Adani, Chairman & Founder of the Adani Group,  whose net worth has nearly tripled to $ 74.8 billion as compared to $25.2 billion in the previous year.

The new entrants to the list are Arvind Lal (CMD, Dr Lal PathLabs), Bajranglal Taparia (Chairman, Supreme Industries), Inder Jaisinghani (CMD, Polycab India), Ashok Boob (MD, Clean Science & Technology), Deepak Mehta (Chairman, Deepak Nitrite), and Yogesh Kothari (MD, Alkyl Amine Chemicals).

Here are the top 10 richest people of 2021:

  1. Mukesh Ambani – Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani is the chairman, managing director, and largest shareholder of Reliance Industries Ltd., a Fortune Global 500 company.
  1. Gautam Adani – Gautam Shantilal Adani is the chairman and founder of the Adani Group, an Ahmedabad-based multinational conglomerate involved in port development and operations in India.
  1. Shiv Nadar – Shiv Nadar is the founder and chairman emeritus of HCL Technologies Limited and the Shiv Nadar Foundation.
  1. Radhakishan Damani – Radhakishan S. Damani is the founder of DMart. He also manages his portfolio through his Investment firm, Bright Star Investments Limited. 
  1. Cyrus Poonawalla – Cyrus S. Poonawalla is the chairman & managing director of the Cyrus Poonawalla Group, which includes the Serum Institute of India, the largest vaccine manufacturer in the world.
  1. Lakshmi Mittal – Lakshmi Niwas Mittal is the Executive Chairman of ArcelorMittal, the world’s largest steelmaking company, as well as Chairman of stainless steel manufacturer Aperam.
  1. Savitri Jindal – Savitri Devi Jindal is the Chairperson Emeritus of OP Jindal Group. She is also the president of Maharaja Agrasen Medical College, Agroha.

8. Uday Kotak – Uday Suresh Kotak is the executive vice chairman and managing director of Kotak Mahindra Bank.

9. Pallonji Mistry – Pallonji Shapoorji Mistry is the chairman of Shapoorji Pallonji Group, a  Indian conglomerate company that operates in construction, real estate, textiles, engineered goods, home appliances, shipping, publications, power, and biotechnology.

  1. Kumar Birla – Kumar Mangalam Birla is the chairman of the Aditya Birla Group, one of the largest conglomerates in India that operates in 36 countries with more than 140,000 employees.
