Intel employee “potentially” exposed to COVID-19, under quarantine

Tech giant Intel recently confirmed that one of its employees based in Bengaluru has “potentially been exposed” to the novel coronavirus and is currently under quarantine. As the death toll due to the virus crossed the 3,000 mark, corporations around the globe have begun to take preventive measures to safeguard their employees’ health.

The company also announced that it has implemented precautionary measures like travel restrictions, increased frequency of office sanitization, and work-from-home provisions in India.

In an official company statement, Intel said, “An Intel employee in Bangalore has potentially been exposed and is currently under quarantine in accordance with government requirements.”
The company also said that it is monitoring the situation closely and working to ensure that employees have all the required information and resources they need to stay safe and informed.

“In India, we have implemented precautionary measures such as travel and event restrictions, visitor screenings at all our offices, increased frequency of office sanitization, and work-from-home provisions,” the statement said.

With the virus infecting about 28 people in India, the government has strengthened its efforts to contain the virus. The Ministry of Health and Family Affairs has also issued advisory regarding the outbreak. Although the government claims that everything is under control, fear in the minds of people is starting to create a shortage of sanitizers and alcohol-based hand rubs in the country.

Microblogging platform Twitter has asked its employees to work from home while other tech giants like Tata Consultancy Services and HCL Technologies instructed staff to avoid non-essential travel as IT firms put in place measures to safeguard workers against the deadly coronavirus.
