Bengaluru-based Turnip raises $1.63 mn in seed round led by Elevation Capital

Turnip, a game live streaming and community platform based out of Bengaluru, has raised $1.63 million in seed funding led by Elevation Capital along with participation from Better Capital.

The startup will utilise the fund infusion to expand its reach to millions of gaming communities and for hiring talent.

Founded in April 2020 by Pooja Dubey and Aditya Sharma, Turnip allows content creators to stream on platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and Twitch, and run interactive experiences for their communities as well as monetise user engagement.

“Gaming fans love watching their favourite creators, go out of their way to interact via YouTube paid-chats, and often dream about getting a shoutout someday. However, currently, these interactions are basic and limited. We believe that there is huge potential in enriching these engagements,” said Sharma.

“Game Streaming in India has moved from being a niche sub-culture to very mainstream. However, the experience remains quite non-interactive and primitive. Pooja and Aditya are making game stream viewing more participatory for the mobile-first audience,” said Vaas Bhaskar, Vice President, Elevation Capital.

The platform is currently available free for download on Google Play Store and claims to have more than 250,000 users.
