Smart Ship Hub completes $2.5 mn pre-funding round led by Ideaspring Capital and StartupXseed

Smart Ship Hub, the maritime digital B2B platform (SaaS) headquartered in Singapore, has completed a pre-funding round of $2.5 million, led by Ideaspring Capital and StartupXseed.

Smart Ship Hub(SSH) is ready to deploy digital platform for global maritime logistics. SSH is disrupting the maritime industry in the same way that electronic control systems did in the aviation industry. SSH is cloud-based and on-demand, offering a “unified platform and single source of truth” for ship owners, ship operators, ship brokers, marine insurers and port authorities. The platform is adapted to cargo ships, ocean-going ships, oil rigs, river boats and fishing boats, the statement said.

SSH’s ship-to-shore and shore-to-ship fleet management using smart sensors, IOT and big data saves significant operating costs and improves voyage efficiency. The digital platform helps predict potential machine downtime and failures, and identify performance anomalies and routes to improve voyage and vessel performance. SSH’s “Marine Insights” is a unique maritime big data platform, delivering actionable information, smart alerts and fleet-wide performance advice based on millions of data records, according to the statement..

SSH’s global customers can achieve their goals of minimal breakdown maintenance, optimal fuel utilization, total compliance with regulations, including for emissions, optimized costs for condition-based maintenance and a much higher level of control over the journey. The Performance Advisory function reduces the number of incidents for these ships and saves maintenance and fuel costs. Forward-looking maritime companies are helping to create a connected ecosystem: connected ships, shared services (routes, capacity, procurement) and a “pay as you go” model with SSH digital.

Joy Basu , the founder of Smart Ship Hub, adds: “Digital platforms are going to play a critical role in disrupting the traditional maritime processes. Inefficient and traditional workflows in ships and along the coast must gradually give way to automated remote control. This round of funding allows us to offer more value to our customers globally. Customers now get a built-in performance center for a fraction of the costs they have today. Shipowners, operators and brokers can get digital upgrades for ‘Zero’ capex, so they can free up capital and upgrade more vessels.”

“Ideaspring Capital is proud to be a part of Smart Ship Hub’s growth and join the journey towards becoming the digital platform of choice for global maritime companies. We are a venture capital firm focused on organizations engaged in IOT, machine learning, deep learning, big data analytics, AR, VR, cybersecurity and computer vision, and we have seen SmartShip leverage these technologies through its world-class platform. We are very impressed with the team and the product,” said Naganand Doraswamy , managing partner of Ideaspring Capital.

“StartupXseed is a sector agnostic fund with investments in everything from SaaS to aerospace (technology), including in the fields of cyber security, Semicon, AI/ML, drones and new Frontier Startups in India with a global focus. Smart Ship Hub is an early stage growth company and we are particularly impressed that their product and key customers have grown globally in a short period of time,” said Ravi Thakur , Partner in charge of StartupXseed ventures.

“SmartShip has unique advantages from a solid foundation of renowned maritime professionals, headquarters in Singapore and a strong technology team. We are excited about this collaboration as they are disrupting the global maritime domain: BV Naidu,” Managing Partner of StartupXseed venture.
