Flexiwork start-up TapChief raises a pre-series A funding of $1.5 mn

TapChief, an online platform connecting professionals, freelancers and businesses, has raised a pre-series A round of $1.5 million led by Blume Ventures. The company was founded by Shashank Murali, Binay Krishna and Arjun Krishna in 2016. The platform allows professionals to network with others in their domain, sign up for freelance assignments. The platform also enables businesses to engage a flexible work force – short term talent, experts, and consultants.

Earlier this year, the startup raised $650,000 from marquee investors like Paytm, 500 Startups, Cred founder Kunal Shah and former Flipkart executive Mekin Maheshwari.

It is understood that the startup will use these funds to further integrate their technology, increasing the network of professionals, and businesses looking for a flexible workforce. The platform presently hosts over 100,000 professionals, over 100 business and has over 25,000 projects delivered.

In a media statement, Co-founder & CEO of TapChief Shashank Murali said, “One in 5 professionals globally today are independent and this is expected to grow to 50 percent by the next decade. Our goal is to empower Indian professionals to have access to the widest selection of gigs in the fastest manner at the right income benchmarks. The opportunity to partner with the Blume team to take this to the next level is fascinating for us.”

Gig economy has been talked about a lot in last few years, the new generation of professionals are looking for flexible work opportunities and employers – big and small are incorporating talent on tap in their manpower planning. Flexible workforce has been relevant for most start-ups and small companies on a budget for niche as well as short term talent requirements.

Some projects listed on the platform are just like most freelance assignment available on other established platforms in this space – elance (now UpWork), Freelancer, Fiverr etc., so it needs to be seen how TapChief emerges as some thing different. There is always a potential for someone who is able to crack the code and do better than others in the space of connecting talent with employers.
