JCB to invest Rs 500 Crore on new manufacturing plant at Jaipur in India

JCB Bamford Excavators, the UK Based construction equipment maker is planning to invest Rs. 500 Cr in the next five years to set up its fourth manufacturing plant in India. The Indian operations of the company is expected to hire up to 1,500 people for the new plant over the next 4-5 years.

JCB India is the fully owned subsidiary of JCB Bamford Excavators, UK and is India’s largest manufacturer of construction equipment’s. The company offers 21 different machines in seven product types such as Backhoe Loaders, Loading Shovels, Tracked Excavators, Compactors, Tele handlers, Skid Steer Loaders and Pick and Carry Crane.

JCB has three operational plants in India — one at Ballabgarh in Haryana and two at Pune in Maharashtra. The company currently employs around 3,200 people in India, out of which 2,500 people are permanent. JCB India has one R&D center in Pune and had employed about 200 engineers there. It currently has 58 dealers and over 500 outlets across the country. The company is planning to set up its fourth plant on a 115-acre area in Jaipur.The plant is suppose to be constructed at Mahindra World City SEZ. It will be operational by second quarter of 2014 and will start with fabrication work.

JCB regards India as their largest market, and thereby important to their business strategy. The company expects to start addressing export requirements from India.
