April 04, 2012, Mumbai: Ruchi Soya Industries Limited (Ruchi Soya) has been ranked at 175 in the top 250 consumer products companies, in the ‘Global Powers of the Consumer Products Industry 2012’ report published by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu (Deloitte). The report in its 5th annual version identifies the 250 largest consumer product companies around the world based on the publicly available data for the companies’ fiscal year 2010 encompassing companies’ fiscal years ended through June 2011.
Based on the net sales of 3958 MN USD, as reported by Deloitte, Ruchi Soya, the manufacturer of Nutrela Edible Oil and Soya Food was ranked 175. Only three Indian consumer products companies – Ruchi Soya, ITC Limited (ranked 143) & Videocon Industries Ltd (ranked 235) have featured in the list of top 250 consumer products companies from across the world.
Ruchi Soya also featured in the 50 fastest growing consumer companies globally and improved its position to 19 (20 in 2011) as it witnessed 26.4% growth in net sales.
The Deloitte report mentions that India is relatively immune to the problems in the global economy. This is because trade is a modest share of GDP is India. In addition, India’s financial sector is not highly exposed to the troubles of in European credit markets. Thus even a worsening of the situation in Europe is not likely to have a big negative impact on India. Longer term, India’s prospects are good. The country has youthful population, which bodies well for growth and consumer spending.
