Tencent Cloud, the cloud division of Tencent, has announced the launch of its EdgeOne Global Game Hackathon, a competition aimed at game developers globally. The event, themed "SplitSecond Spark," challenges participants to build lightweight web-based games using the company’s Tencent Cloud EdgeOne platform.

The competition offers a prize pool of nearly $20,000 and is structured in two phases. Following an online preliminary round, finalists will be invited to Tencent’s headquarters in Shenzhen, China, for a 24-hour in-person hackathon and live pitch session. The company, which provides the cloud infrastructure for popular games like Honor of Kings, is opening its toolset to the broader developer community through this event.

Participants, in teams of up to three, will use the EdgeOne platform—an edge security and acceleration service—to develop their games. Submissions will be judged on creative design, storytelling, the technical use of the EdgeOne platform, and overall gameplay engagement.

The final round, scheduled for September in Shenzhen, will introduce an additional challenge. Finalists will have 24 hours to develop a lightweight web game, such as a mini-game or side story, based on selected globally popular game IPs.

Key Dates for the Hackathon:

  • Registration & Submission: Now – August 11
  • Submission Deadline: August 11
  • Popularity Metrics Deadline (YouTube): August 17
  • Finalist Announcement: August 19 – 21
  • In-person Final Round: September 15-18 (as part of Tencent Global Digital Ecosystem Summit 2025)
