Summer placements for 2020 at the IIMs

Most of the IIMs have released stats for their summer placements for the 2019-2021 batch. This year there has seen a good rise in the international roles offered to IIM students. Students at the leading IIM’s continue to get picked up by leading brands in consulting and finance domain. E Commerce, tech start-ups had an increase in intake and leading FMCG, diversified business conglomerates also picked up students for their internship programs. It is estimated that in some cases, compensation figures have been up to Rs. 5 Lakh for the 2 month internship.

Earlier, we had covered the summer placements for leading B-schools (non IIM’s), and captured their internship stipends. The stipend at some leading campuses saw a high and touched around Rs. 3.2 Lakh for the 2 month internship.

Summer Placement Report for IIM’s

IIM Bangalore

IIM Bangalore

Summer placements at IIM Bangalore has been a four-day affair this year. More than 100 companies took part, offering 446 internships to 437 students of two-year MBA programmes.

The top recruiters stood out to be Accenture, Amazon, Bain & Company and Goldman Sachs. A total of 127 offers were made in the consulting domain, 79 offers in marketing and sales domain, 72 offers in the finance, banking and investment domain and 33 offers in the Ecommerce sector. Internships offers in technology and product management domain increased in comparison to previous years.

IIM Bangalore received most international offers this year, both by regular and new recruiters.

IIM Kolkata

IIM Kolkata

A total of 480 students saw participation of 136 firms for the class of 2021. Around 200 offers were made by the firms for the 56th batch of IIM Calcutta. Most leadership roles were offered by conglomerates like Mahindra & Mahindra, TAS, ABG, RPG, Godrej and RIL. International roles were offered by the Bank of America, Merrill Lynch, Deutsche Bank, Barclays and Hexaware.

BCG and Accenture Strategy became the largest recruiters hiring 19 and 17 interns, whereas, Citibank and Goldman Sachs were the largest recruiters in the banking and finance sector, offering 15 and 11 offers respectively.

Finance and consulting firms made the most offers that stood around 43.2%. Some of the finance majors that hired are Brookfield, Macquarie, Gaja Capital, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Barclays, Deutsche Bank, BPEA, Edelweiss, DE Shaw and Avendus.

First time recruiters included the names of  NIIF, Indigrid and White Oak Capital Management, among others.

IIM Kozhikode

IIM Kozhikode

IIM Kozhikode attracted participation from 131 companies for the PGP batch of 2019-21. Offers were made to 462 students with the highest stipend at Rs 3.2 lakh for the two-month internship. The median stipend stood at Rs 2 lakh and the average stipend stood at Rs 1.75 lakh. Amazon became the top recruiter offering 19 offers. Sales and Marketing saw the largest recruitment on campus with around 37% of students receiving offers from companies, 12% of students landed offers of consulting roles, 16% of students landed roles in the BFSI domain and around general management roles to 16% of students.

Top recruiters made 128 offers to approx 27% of the batch. It included Accenture Strategy, Amazon, Asian Paints, Axis Bank, EY, Goldman Sachs, HUL, ITC, JP Morgan Chase, Pidilite, PwC, Shell, TAS, and Uber and Udaan.

IIM Lucknow

IIM Lucknow

IIM Lucknow completed 100% placements for its 35th batch of 481 students in a record time. More than 140 domestic and international recruiters offered internships to the students. The mean stipend stood at Rs 1.09 lakh per month while the median stipend was around Rs 1.20 lakh per month.

Around 139 offers were made in FMCG/Consumer Goods/Telecom/Digital Media sectors, BFSI sector saw a total of 68 offers, and consulting domain received a total of 121 offers. 

Top recruiters across sectors were Accenture Strategy, Aditya Birla Group, Amazon, A.T. Kearney, Avendus Capital, Bain and Co, Citi, Deloitte, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, Hindustan Unilever, ITC, JP Morgan Chase and Co, McKinsey and Co., Microsoft, Multiples Alternate Asset Management, P&G, TAS, The Boston Consulting Group, Uber, and Udaan. 

IIM Indore

IIM Indore

IIM Indore has the biggest batch strength (589 students) across all IIMs and also stands apart in terms of diversity of its candidates. The gender diversity at IIM Indore is the best amongst its peers at 44% with 258 female participants who have received on an average, 24% higher stipend than the male participants in the summer internship placements.

A total of 160 plus recruiters participated in the placement process this year, which included about 39 first time recruiters. The average stipend saw an increase to Rs. 1.68 lakh, and the highest stipend was Rs. four lakhs, for the two-month internship. The average stipend offered to top 100 of the batch stood at INR 2.86 lakh and for the top 200 at INR 2.51 lakh.

Among regular recruiters were Aditya Birla Group, Amazon, Boston Consulting Group, Deloitte USI, Deutsche Bank, Ernst & Young, Goldman Sachs, Google, HUL, ITC, JPMorgan Chase and PwC. The new recruiters included – Adani Group, Capgemini ELITE, Diageo, GEP Consulting, Microsoft, Reckitt Benckiser, Salesforce, Walmart Labs and Xiaomi.

At IIM Indore, domain-wise most offers were for the sales & markering profile ( 31%), followed by BFSI (21%), analytics & ccommerce (21%). 17 % of the batch had offers from consulting roles, and 10% got offers in general management roles.
