A good number of people around prefer not to update their profile on LinkedIn, and at times their profile was last updated a year back or may be more.
We just tried to relate to some thoughts and identify possible justification, on why you might have missed out on updating your profile. There is no structure or order of precedence the way these points have been presented.
- You haven’t heard of LinkedIn.
- You are wary of social media, and in a way LinkedIn is also somewhat, something social.
- You are lazy.
- You don’t trust LinkedIn to help you find a job.
- You are too busy to think all this – LinkedIn etc.
- You have just picked up a new job, and you are not sure of continuing on the job. Updating your profile ensures that the world is aware of the new assignment. Then you can’t hide it from your Resume for your next interview.
- You don’t know what to write. You are unable to document your job and experience.
- You don’t view LinkedIn as a platform for networking.
- You are not looking out for a new job and for you, it’s a job search platform and you choose to update your profile only when you need a new job.
- You are not computer or net savvy, either your kid or one of your team member has created your profile and once created, they are not too keen to keep updating the same – and you are not even aware that you have a LinkedIn profile.
- You are bad with passwords. You already have 2 – 3 profiles, and now you are waiting to create your next profile.
- You are not from HR and you are not from Sales or BD. You are not even a recruiter.
- You don’t need to hire anyone nor do you want to get hired.
- You are not a consultant, B2B service provider or a start-up or news enthusiast.
- You have a Facebook profile, and that’s updated with all about you and what you did last summer. You never felt a need to update your LinkedIn profile.
