BHEL, the integrated power plant equipment manufacturer and one of the largest engineering and manufacturing companies in India(in terms of turnover) is setting up a power equipment fabrication plant in Bhandara, Maharashtra. The project will initially require an investment of Rs. 500 Cr.The new plant is estimated to generate employment for around 700 people. The foundation stone for the new unit was laid earlier this week by Prithviraj Chavan, Chief Minister of Maharashtra. He said that that electricity is one of the most vital elements for sustained economic growth. “We need commensurate growth in power supply and BHEL has taken various capacity and capability building initiatives towards this. Today’s milestone is an outcome of such initiatives”
BHEL was established in 1964 and is engaged in the design, engineering, manufacture, construction, testing, commissioning and servicing of a wide range of products and services for the core sectors of the economy, viz. Power, Transmission, Industry, Transportation (Railway), Renewable Energy, Oil & Gas and Defense. The company have 15 manufacturing divisions, two repair units, four regional offices, eight service centers and 15 regional centers and currently operate at more than 150 project sites across India and abroad. The company is contributing over 60 per cent to the total power generating capacity of 13,398 MW in Maharashtra.
Production in the new plant will start after the land acquisition within 24 months and turnover of the plant is estimated to rise upto Rs 1,000 crore approximately. BHEL’s other manufacturing unit will support the new project. Plant in Trichy, and other units at Bhopal, Haridwar, Ranipet and Hyderabad will support with their fabrication works.
BHEL is currently executing 7,700 MW of power projects in Maharashtra at various sites like Chandrapur, Parli, Mauda, Amravati, and Nasik.
