Reliance launches JioMart to take on BigBasket, Grofers and Amazon Pantry

Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio’s much anticipated e-commerce project JioMart has finally gone live after months of testing and trial projects. The company started receiving orders from serviceable pin codes soon after the website went live.

In an attempt to lure new customers, the website is selling certain products at a minimum of 5% discount on MRP. Currently the website is selling essential grocery items as well as farm produce.

According to the company, the farm produce will directly be sourced from farmers that have collaborated with the brand directly.

The website says, “We offer you the convenience of shopping everything that you need for your home – be it fresh fruits & vegetables, rice, dals, oil, packaged food, dairy items, frozen, pet food, household cleaning items & personal care products from a single virtual store.”

To check whether the service is available in your area or not, the website is asking for the six-digit pincode to inform whether they are delivering in that area or not.

Earlier, the service was available on WhatsApp in select cities including Mumbai and Thane. Soon after Facebook acquired shares in Jio Platforms, WhatsApp and JioMart had signed a commercial agreement to let Jio leverage WhatsApp’s technology to reach out to small kirana stores in India.

Users can log on to the newly-launched website jiomart.com to place an order. While the JioMart app is not available on Apple or Google Play Store, the same can be downloaded via jiomart.com.
