In order to push for ‘Make in India’ in the defence sector, the Government of India is organising the 11th edition of biennial mega defence exhibition in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The exhibition will take place between February 5-9. The theme of the Expo is ‘India: The Emerging Defence Manufacturing Hub’.
The number of companies participating in the exhibition have reached 1000 in comparison to the previous exhibition held in Chennai, that saw participation of 702 companies. Also, the number of participating foreign companies has also increased to 165 from the previous figure of 160. Some of the major defence manufacturing countries such as the US, Russia, France, Germany and the United Kingdom will also be taking part in the exhibition. Thus, it has become by far the biggest ever DefExpo to be held in India.
As per media reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the event on February 5 for which Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will hold a curtain raiser meeting on the eve of the exhibition, defence officials said. The event is also being seen as a major push by the government towards building a strong military infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh which has one of the two designated defence industrial corridors. The exhibition will be attended by Defence Ministry officials and armed forces led by the Chief of Defence Staff and the three services chiefs.
The major objective for organising this exhibition is to bring the leading technologies in the defence sector under one roof and provide a myriad of opportunities for the government,private manufactures and startups. The event will cover the entire spectrum of the country’s aerospace, defence and security interests.
