Apple, a multinational corporation that designs, manufactures, and markets consumer electronics, personal computers, and software, announced that it has appointed Ipsita Dasgupta as India country manager for its streaming services like Apple TV+, Apple Music and the App Store.
Prior to this role, Dasgupta was the President of Strategy and New Ventures at Hotstar. Dasgupta holds an MBA degree from Harvard.
Dasgupta replaced Khushboo Ponwar who had last year moved on as head of business development for Apple in India, Middle East, Turkey and Africa.
The appointment of Dasgupta as country manager, Apple Services, comes at a time when the company is looking to build its streaming and app businesses as a revenue driver in the country with localised content.
Apple has plans to acquire licenses for Indian content and original production for video streaming service Apple TV+ and for Apple Music, and has priced its services aggressively in the country. This includes the lowest price globally for Apple Music and Apple TV+ at Rs 99 per month each, while there is a student offer for Apple Music at Rs 49 per month. The company is also trying to get more apps developed locally into App Store.
Apple was named as the most admired company in the United States in 2008 and in the world from 2008 to 2012 by the Fortune magazine. The company was founded by Steven Paul Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Gerald Wayne on April 1, 1976, and is headquartered in Cupertino, California, US.
