Carl Pei’s Nothing ropes in Manu Sharma as VP and GM for India

OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei’s Nothing has appointed former Samsung executive Manu Sharma as vice-president and general manager for its India unit.

In this new role, Sharma will be responsible for driving growth, business development and operations for the startup’s India operations. He will also oversee Nothing’s regional product strategy, marketing and sales operations as well as setting up its India office.

“Manu is an experienced business leader with deep knowledge and understanding of the consumer technology industry in India. With his proven track record and experience, he will play a pivotal role for our growth in India.” Pei said.

Most recently, Sharma quit Samsung after nearly a decade-long stint across multiple roles, most recently as vice-president – head of Product Strategy. He’s also worked at Hewlett-Packard and Ogilvy & Mather.

“Carl’s vision is inspiring and I am confident that Nothing will have a meaningful impact on the consumer technology market in India and around the world,” said Manu Sharma, vice-president and general manager, Nothing India.

Nothing announced that they have roped in Swedish consumer electronics firm Teenage Engineering as a founding partner of the firm. Teenage Engineering is known for creating a range of audio products with a strong emphasis on product design.

Teenage Engineering co-founder and chief executive Jesper Kouthoofd will serve as the creative lead while Tom Howard, who is currently working as Teenage Engineering’s vice head of design, will be Nothing’s head of design.

Nothing has raised total financing of $22 million to date, from Alphabet’s GV and a clutch of angels including iPod inventor Tony Fadell, Twitch cofounder Kevin Lin, Reddit chief executive Steve Huffman, PCH founder and chief executive Liam Casey, Cred founder Kunal Shah, prominent YouTuber Casey Neistat, Product Hunt chief executive Josh Buckley, and Web Summit founder Paddy Cosgrave.
