KIOCL appoints T. Saminathan as Managing Director

Mining & Metals company KIOCL Limited has appointed Saminathan Thimmalakundhi as Chairman and Managing Director, effective September 07, 2021. He succeeds S.K. Gorai, who resigned from the role, effective Sept 07, 2021.

According to the Company’s exchange filing, “We hereby inform that, Ministry of Steel vide its Order F. No. 5/1/2020-BLA dated 7th September, 2021 has appointed Shri T. Saminathan (DIN:08291153), Director (Commercial) as the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of the Company from the date of his assumption of charge till the date of his superannuation i.e. 31.05.2024 or until further orders, whichever is earlier.”

T. Saminathan holds Degree in Mechanical Engineering and Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management and has more than three decades of experience in KIOCL Limited in the iron ore Mining, Beneficiation, Pelletization and Pig iron making since joining in the year 1986 as Graduate Engineer.

During initial period, he served in Kudremukh mine Beneficiation Plant and later moved to Corporate Office, Technical Services Department, Bangalore in 1992 and executed projects viz: Crusher III installation, Relocation of Crusher I and installation of additional Ball Mills. He also served in CMD’s Secretariat as Technical Officer to CMD for a shorter period and moved on to materials department in the year 2009.

Prior to assuming the charge of Chairman-cum-Managing Director he was holding the post of Director (Commercial) and prior to that he served as GM (Materials) heading both the Materials & Commercial Divisions. He was instrumental in bringing tolling concept which had resulted in increased Capacity utilization of Pellet Plant, improved physical & financial performance of the Company. He also put in place system improvement in supply chain and logistics which had resulted in reduced transit and brought down inventory holding level. He had also framed and implemented risk management across the organization, introduced e-procurement through service provider MSTC and started GeM procurement. He is a life time member in Indian Institute of Materials management (IIMM) and Indian Institute of Mineral Engineers (IIME), the statement said.

KIOCL Limited, formerly Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Limited is a government owned enterprise with its head office and administrative activities in Bangalore. It is under the ownership of Ministry of Steel, Government of India.
