The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) recently announced that it has appointed G R Chintala to the position of Chairman.
The apex agri-finance institution on Wednesday announced that Chintala will replace H K Bhanwala. Bhanwala had been heading the organisation for more than six years.
Prior to his appointment, Chintala was the Managing Director of NABARD Financial Services, a Bengaluru-based subsidiary of NABARD. He was also the Vice President of Agri-Business Finance Ltd., Hyderabad, and the Director of Bankers Institute of Rural Development (BIRD), Lucknow.
According to an official statement by the bank, Chintala has handled several consultancy assignments including a significant one on a roadmap for amalgamation of regional rural banks (RRBs) in 2006 that led the way for the consolidation of 196 RRBs.
His rich and varied experience is expected to further deepen NABARD’s engagement with agriculture and rural development issues, particularly in the wake of the situation arising due to the recent outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, it added.
Chintala, a Post Graduate from Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, joined NABARD as an officer and worked in various capacities at the Head Office, Mumbai, and Regional Offices including Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, New Delhi, and Bengaluru.
Recently, NABARD employees had collectively donated ₹10Cr to PM Cares Fund for helping the government fight the COVID-19 crisis.
