Philip Morris International Inc. announced that Jacek Olczak has been appointed new Chief Executive Officer.
Olczak, who had been serving as the company’s Chief Operating Officer, was also elected to the Board of Directors. André Calantzopoulos, who served as PMI’s Chief Executive Officer from 2013 to May 5, 2021, was appointed Executive Chairman of the Board prior to the meeting. This PMI leadership transition was announced in December 2020. By accepting the appointment, Olczak pledged to accelerate PMI’s smoke-free transformation, announced in 2016.
The company focuses on developing, in a science-based way, and responsibly marketing smoke-free products that are less harmful than cigarettes, with the goal of replacing them as soon as possible.

Olczak has been a key advocate for PMI’s smoke-free transformation, which entered its commercialization phase with the launch of IQOS in Nagoya , Japan, in 2014. In addition, under the leadership of Olczak as Chief Operating Officer, the company increased the geographic coverage of PMI’s smoke-free products from zero to 66 markets in key cities as of March 31, 2021. He has also led PMI’s business transformation, successfully moving it from a primarily business-to-business company to an increasingly business-to-consumer company. .
