Reliance Communications has appointed Gurdeep Singh as the President and Chief Executive Officer of its wireless business. He would take over the position left vacant after the resignation of Syed Safawi in February 2012. (See: Telecom Industry top level exits .. & Reliance Communication Restructuring ).
In his new role he would be a member of Reliance Management Board.
Gurdeep, had earlier been the COO for Aircel, and had separated from the company early this year – Jan 2012. There had been reports of changes in business structure triggering his decision to quit. Gurdeep is an alumnus of BITS Pilani, and is a veteran in Indian telecom industry with a past stint with Vodafone (earlier Hutch) as its Head of Northern Region. He has also been in consumer durables and consumer electronics space.
