SiMa.ai, the machine learning company enabling high-performance compute at the lowest power for embedded edge applications, announced a new design center in Bengaluru, India. Also, the company announced the appointments of Amit Kumar Mitra as Head of Software Development, and Sudershan R. Vuruputoor as Head of Hardware Development.
The investment in the new site will bolster the company’s engineering and operations team, opening up new in-region job opportunities for board development, operations, infrastructure, and system application roles. SiMa.ai’s engineering team in India will report to Gopal Hegde, senior vice president, Engineering and Operations.
The growth beyond Silicon Valley and Serbia will give SiMa.ai a solid foundation with engineering talent in India to jump-start the productization of SiMa.ai’s MLSoC platform, while scaling the team for next-generation product development, the statement said.
Commenting on the development, Krishna Rangasayee, founder and CEO of SiMa.ai, said, “The embedded edge market is ripe for disruption and machine learning has moved from nice to have to must-have. Our vision is to build our customers an innovative ML platform that ultimately helps scale the widespread adoption across important embedded edge applications, such as robotics, medical, and autonomous vehicles. The expansion into India is pivotal as we prepare to deliver the industry’s first purpose-built machine learning SoC.”
Hegde stated, “We go where outstanding engineers are located. Bengaluru has a talent pool of highly qualified and experienced engineers and our expansion into the region is a strategic move as we grow our engineering organization. To this end, I’m excited to introduce our site leadership — Sudershan Vuruputoor, head of hardware development and Amit Kumar Mitra, head of software development.”
A silicon designer by training, Vuruputoor brings tremendous experience in building and scaling silicon design teams. Previously, he started, built, and scaled India development centers for On Semiconductor and Aptina and held senior engineering leader positions at Nvidia, AMD, and Analog Devices.
Mitra will drive the software development strategy at SiMa.ai. Previously, he was at Mercedes Benz India, where he was instrumental in establishing Centers of Excellence (CoE) for data engineering and leading teams of computer vision and high-definition mapping for highly automated driving.
Initially focused on solutions for computer vision applications at the embedded edge, SiMa.ai is led by a team of technology experts committed to delivering the industry’s highest frames per second per watt solution to its customers.
