SugarBox, a Mumbai-based on-demand entertainment platform, has appointed Gautam Karmakar as Chief Business Officer, Nishant Sharma as Vice President – Operations, Rahul Sharma as Vice President – Infrastructure, and Kamal Upadhyay as Vice President – Engineering.
Gautam Karmakar has over 18 years of business development and leadership experience across the media, technology, banking sectors in both startups and large organizations, according to a statement. He was one of the founding members of a B2B internet startup by Rocket Internet, led strategic alliances for TaxiForSure.com, and helped set up Practo in Indonesia as the Country Manager. Most recently, he served Times Internet as head of business development and strategic partnerships.
Nishant Sharma comes with domain knowledge of wired and wireless networks. He has over 20 years of experience before joining SugarBox. During his recent more than five year stint at ACT, he built its network to handle two million customers and was instrumental in launching Giga speed to retail customers. He has worked with Telcos including Bharti Airtel and Reliance in the past and has a background in handling various roles such as – Core, Access Network, Installation, and Infrastructure SLA management.
In his role, Rahul Sharma will be responsible for the complete infrastructure footprint of the company, including Cloud and Edge Infra; Network planning; as well as Research and Development. He has conceptualized and delivered Management and Control Plane products for leading networking companies including Juniper Networks, Aruba Networks, Alcatel Lucent and Cisco Systems for the last 18 years.
Kamal Upadhyay will be responsible for the entire Software function. He has around 18 years of experience building products and engineering teams in domains including Logistics, AdTech, Social gaming, Banking, Fraud detection and Data integration. As part of his professional journey, he has worked with the likes of Rivigo, Direct-i, Komli Media, Disney Playdom, Arcot Systems and Informatica.
