India’s largest food delivery company, Swiggy recently announced that the company Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Rahul Jaimini, has resigned from his position to pursue another entrepreneurial venture.
His resignation was announced by company CEO and Co-founder Sriharsha Majety in a blogpost, where he bid goodbye to his “magician” friend and business partner.
Jaimini will now be moving on to join technology education company Pesto Tech as its Co-founder. Pesto Tech is a career accelerator startup backed by all the three Swiggy co-founders.
At Swiggy, Jaimini had been responsible for building the company’s technology backbone while overseeing its evolution into the complex system to deliver personalised experiences at scale.
Announcing Jaimini’s decision to move on, CEO Sriharsha said, “Technology was crucial to what we set out to build when we started Swiggy. Nandan and I could not have asked for a better partner to handle this aspect of the company. It was Rahul’s immense passion to ‘build for the billions’ that drove technological innovations that set Swiggy apart as we grew phenomenally over the years”
Swiggy in an official statement announced that the functions currently led by Rahul, including Platform Engineering, Analytics, IT and Labs, will be realigned to Dale Vaz, Head of Engineering and Data Science. Dale has been associated with the foodtech company for close to two years now.
The company also said that post his departure, Jaimini will continue to be a part of Swiggy’s board and hold his shares.
Commenting on his resignation, Jaimini said, “The last 6 years at Swiggy were undoubtedly some of the best years. We set off with a massive goal to disrupt the food delivery industry and change the way the country eats, and this made for an exhilarating experience. Working with technology that has large scale impact is what excites me, and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to do just this at Swiggy and grow tremendously over the years. Although the time has come to move on and pursue other interesting challenges, I will continue to cheer for Harsha, Nandan and the entire Swiggy team as it strives towards delivering unparalleled convenience for consumers across the country.”
Founded by Ayush Jaiswal and San Francisco-based serial entrepreneur Andrew Linfoot, Pesto is a career accelerator for top software engineering talent, which runs a 12-week training program. The company had earlier last year raised $2mn in seed funding led by Matrix Partner in May.
