Syed Safawi (ex Reliance Communications) has joined Viom Networks as the CEO. Viom, a joint venture between Tata Teleservices and Quippo operates over 40,000 towers, and ranks amongst the top telecom passive infrastructure company in India.
The CEO position at Viom has been vacant since the exit of Arun Kapoor last year, and since then the company’s Vice Chairman & Managing Director Sunil Kanoria had been filling in for the CEO’s position.
Syed Safawi, had been the President & CEO of the wireless division of Reliance Communication, for about two years starting December 2009. Prior to that he was with Bharti Airtel, where he headed mobile operations for Eastern Circles, and some circles in the West as an Executive Director.
Prior to joining Bharti in 2007, Mr Safawi headed Coca-Cola, Indochina, and was responsible for the company’s operations in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos & Malaysia.
