Ride hailing giant Uber has announced the appointment of Manikandan Thangarathnam as Senior Director to lead all Rider and Platform engineering teams. The move will strengthen the company’s tech team in India, it said.
“We’re bolstering our tech presence in India with the hire of Amazon veteran, Manikandan Thangarathnam. He joins us as Senior Director to lead all Rider and Platform engineering teams in Bangalore,” Uber said in the press release.
“We’re also hiring 85 more engineers. This is in addition to our September announcement of hiring 140 engineers, which takes the total number of engineers we’re hiring to 225,” the company added.
Prior to this role, Mani had a stint with Amazon for 13 years, where he led engineering efforts for Amazon Appstore. Mani holds 20 years experience of spearheading engineering efforts in global companies.
“Mani’s addition is part of our overarching vision for positioning India as one of our technology hubs, building and innovating for the world. Mani, a well-known face in tech circles, comes with over 20 years of experience in spearheading engineering efforts across global companies where he built several core platforms and products,” Uber said.
Uber’s mobility and platform teams are responsible for building all technologies that move riders and enable drivers to earn on a dynamic marketplace platform across 10,000 cities worldwide.
Recently, Uber hired Jayaram Valliyur as senior director to lead its global finance technology team, spread across multiple geographies. Prior to Uber, Jayaram too worked at Amazon for 14 years, where he was responsible for bootstrapping and scaling its India development center.
