Former VMware executive Rajiv Ramaswami made president and CEO of Nutanix

Rajiv Ramaswami, a longtime industry veteran who had been leading VMware’s cloud products and services development for the last four years, has joined Nutanix as its president and CEO.

He replaces co-founder Dheeraj Pandey, who previously announced his plans to retire in August.

‘Rajiv is the right leader at the right time,’ says Nutanix co-founder and now former CEO Dheeraj Pandey.

Rajiv Ramaswami brings an industry experience of 30 years, having worked in different capacities. Before VMware, he had served as executive vice president and general manager, infrastructure and networking at Broadcom, where he helped establish the company as a leader in data center, enterprise and carrier networking.

“I have long admired Nutanix as a formidable competitor, a pioneer in hyper converged infrastructure solutions and a leader in cloud software,” said Ramaswami in a statement Wednesday.

He said that now he has the opportunity to lead the company into its next phase. Sharing his vision, he said, “Working closely with the board, the management team, and the more than 6,000 talented Nutanix employees around the world, we will build on Nutanix’s strong foundation of continuous innovation, collaboration and customer delight. Together, we will capitalize on the significant opportunities ahead and deliver on the company’s next phase of growth and value creation.”

Commenting on this hiring, an analyst at Constellation Research, Holger Mueller says “Hiring Ramaswami brings both an expert for multi-cloud to the Nutanix helm, as well as weakening a key competitor from a talent perspective”.

Nutanix is a global leader in cloud software and a pioneer in hyper converged infrastructure solutions, making computing invisible anywhere.
