Green Energy sector .. hot and happening ..

Green energy sector, renewable energy sector has been gaining momentum for last few years, and may be seeing more action going forward. Action, would imply creation of additional capacities, new infrastructure, more investments and more career opportunities.

Green energy sector or/and renewable energy sector may be divided into following lines of business:

  • Solar Energy
  • Wind Energy
  • Small Hydro Power
  • Bio Energy
  • Geothermal Energy
  • Energy Efficiency

Some recent updates:

India’s aim to scale up its solar power generation capacity to 20,000 mw by 2020 from around 250 mw now has encouraged power utilities like Tata Power Company, Reliance Power, GMR Energy and Adani Power to expand into renewable energy. The sector has also attracted foreign companies.

 

Adani Power:

Adani Power plans to invest Rs 3,000 crore in two years to add 160 megawatt (Mw) solar power to its exisisting capacity.

The company is planning to set up another 100-Mw plant near Jaisalmer. This project could be commissioned by 2013-14. The official said the total investment in 160 Mw would be Rs 3,000 crore, with an investment of Rs 18 crore per Mw. (BS  – 4th January 2012)

Adani Power has commissioned its first 40-Mw solar power plant in Bitta village of Kutch district, Gujarat, has plans to expand it to 100 Mw.

Talma Chemical Industries:

Vallabh Bhanshali, a storied investment banker who introduced Infosys to the capital markets, has made a unobtrusive but ambitious entry into solar power with plans to invest Rs 1,700 crore in setting up generation capacity of 100 megawatt.

Talma Chemical Industries, promoted by the Bhanshali family, has launched an SPV called Visual Percept Solar Projects, to develop projects based on photovoltaic technology. (ET – 16th Jan 2012)

Mahindra Solar:

Mahindra Solar One, a joint venture between the Mahindra Group and Kiran Energy, plans to invest 1,000 crore in solar power generation to build a capacity of 100 megawatts over the next two years, continuing the trend of large business houses investing heavily in the sector.

M&M has forayed into the renewable space through Mahindra Cleantech Ventures, which has set up three divisions – Mahindra Solar for power generation, Mahindra EPC for engineering of solar projects and Mahindra Off-grid solutions that offers rooftop setups for solar power generation.
