Leading Chinese home appliances MNC Haier has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Uttar Pradesh Government to set up its second industrial park in India. The project to be set up in Greater Noida over next four years with an investment of over 3000 cr is expected to create over 4,000 direct and over 10,000 indirect jobs.
The MoU was signed between Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Haier Vice-President (Global Appliances) Song Yujun.
The new industrial park will commence operations by 2020. The investment is expected to augment Haier’s production capacity in India. This is Haier’s second industrial park in India. Globally, Hair has 24 industrial parks, 5 R&D centers, 66 trading companies, 143330 sales outlets and more than 70,000 employees. The company’s product range comprises of over 15,100 models in 96 categories.
In India, Haier has been predominantly in the consumer durables – home appliances refrigerator, television, microwaves , washing machines, air conditioners. In the commercial segment Haier sells commercial freezers, deep freezers etc.
Haier’s investment shows its increased commitment towards the Indian government’s “Make in India” initiative to boost local manufacturing, and reduce dependency on imports.
Speaking on the signing of the MoU, Song said – “India is a dynamic and important market for the Haier Group. Setting up the new manufacturing unit will not only help us build a better presence in the country, but will also enable us to innovate more for our Indian customers with solutions that complement their evolving lifestyles.”
Eric Braganza, President of Haier India, said, “in line with our commitment to the central government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, we are delighted to announce the second industrial park in the country.”
Prior to this, Haier India had set up its manufacturing facility at Ranjangaon in south-western city of Pune, which was subsequently expanded as the company’s first industrial park in India. In Nov 2017, Haier India had added additional capacity at its plant at Ranjangaon in Pune set up with an investment of Rs 600 crore.
