HCL BPO, employs about 800 people in operations in Belfast and Armagh in Ireland. It is reported that of these 425 staff have been put on 90-day notice. This comes from a decision to close an office in Northern Ireland’s Armagh and cut staff in Belfast. The company expects to save about 170 of those jobs through redeployment, retraining etc. however about 250 workers are set to lose their jobs.
The company has said that – they would be committed to retaining and retraining as many of the affected employees as possible, and would also be helping them seek alternative employment within and outside HCL BPO.
The company said its work for clients would continue as normal but it would, as a matter of course, be keeping all its clients informed of the proposed changes. HCL has been in Ireland since 2002, and is committed to staying there for a long term.
