Honda Cars plans to invest Rs. 2500 crore in Tapikara, Rajsthan plant.

Honda Cars India plans to invest Rs. 2500 crore in its Tapikara plant in Rajasthan by next year. The investment and the proposed capacity expansion is expected to generate over 2000 jobs in the region. As of now the company employs around 1500 in Rajasthan. The company had commissioned the first phase of Tapikara, Rajasthan  plant in September 2008, and the facility is spread over 350 acres.  Honda Cars had started its operations in India in 1995, and the company’s first manufacturing facility was set up in Greater Noida, UP.

The investment would be directed at setting up a new assembly line for cars, and would have an annual capacity of 1.2 Lakhs.  The proposed expansion plan also entails the creation of a new diesel engine component production and a forging plant.  The company’s is soon expected to launch  – Amaze, its first diesel car in the Indian market.

Despite a difficult market scenario, Honda Cars India Limited, has registered an annual growth of 35 % by selling an all time high volume of 73483 units during April 12 – March 13, as compared to 54.427 units in the corresponding period last year.
