Loop Telecom, is next in line of the operators winding up their operations post cancellation of 2G licenses by the Supreme Court. Earlier S-Tel, and Etisalat decided to wind up their operations. Loop Telecom would however maintain its operations in Mumbai, where in it has a separate license held by Loop Mobile and has a sizable subscriber size of about 3 million. Loop Mobile – Mumbai, was created in 2009, with the brand name changing from BPL Mobile to Loop Mobile. In Mumbai, Loop Mobile has completed over 16 years of service.
Loop Telecom had licenses for 21 circles, and was yet to do a full fledged roll out of its services. As on date it has a limited subscriber base numbering a few thousands in 13 circles. The company is learnt to have issued notices to its subscriber to switch to other operators using MNP. The move of closure is also expected to lead to job losses for about 200 of loop’s employees.
